Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, has stated that Islamabad may launch attacks on “terrorist sanctuaries” inside Afghanistan before the start of Ramadan. He alleged that these hideouts operate under the Taliban’s control and pose a severe security risk to Pakistan, signaling a potential escalation in cross-border tensions.
During a televised interview, Asif suggested that the Taliban might understand the “language of money” alongside the “language of force.” He claimed that the administration in Kabul had previously requested funds to relocate TTP members to western Afghanistan, implying a transactional approach to the security crisis.
These remarks come amidst growing concerns about the TTP becoming a trans-regional threat. While the Taliban consistently deny the presence of foreign terrorist groups on Afghan soil, independent reports and Pakistani officials insist that such groups continue to operate and organize freely within the country.
