The UN Security Council announced that the United States has not agreed to the draft one-year extension of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The Security Council will vote Monday on a draft extension for the next three months.
This draft has been prepared by China for the third time, and the U.S. has not agreed with the two previous drafts either. This is the first time since 2002 that Washington has made such a decision regarding UNAMA's mission.
The U.S. stated that UNAMA is one of the most expensive special political missions of the UN and operates in a very complex environment, so the Council must first examine whether its mission remains appropriate and fully implementable. #Afghanistan #UNAMA #United\_Nations #USA
