The Committee to Protect Journalists asked Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan's Prime Minister, to take action to stop the harassment, detention, and deportation of Afghan journalists in the country. The committee emphasized that deporting journalists to Afghanistan exposes them to risks such as retaliation and detention.
The Committee to Protect Journalists announced on Wednesday, coinciding with March 18, National Journalists' Day, that it has joined the request by Reporters Without Borders and Free Press Unlimited to stop the harassment, arbitrary detention, and deportation of exiled Afghan journalists in Pakistan.
Previously, these organizations wrote in a letter to Shehbaz Sharif that Afghan journalists are being targeted in Pakistan amid border tensions. Earlier, the Afghanistan Journalists Center reported that more than 200 media violations were documented in the year 1404 (2025). #Afghan\_Journalists #Pakistan #Freedom\_of\_Expression #Migration
