The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that following continued clashes between the Taliban government and Pakistan, the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has intensified, with civilian casualties, displacement, and urgent humanitarian needs increasing dramatically. From February 26 to March 17, 289 civilian casualties were recorded, with 76 killed and 213 injured.
According to the agency, 59 women and 104 children comprise more than half of the victims. The scope and intensity of clashes have increased and spread to more areas. Approximately 40,000 people have been displaced and over 318 shelters destroyed. Urgent needs include shelter, water, health services, and food assistance.
