US Congresswoman Julie Johnson has demanded immediate accountability from relevant authorities following the death of Mohammad Nazir Paktyawal, an Afghan citizen, in the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Johnson, who represents Texas's 32nd district and is a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, sent a letter to Todd Lyons, acting head of the agency, demanding full explanations about the detention conditions and death of this individual.

The letter states that Mohammad Nazir Paktyawal, a 41-year-old man, died less than 24 hours after being detained at one of the immigration facilities. According to Johnson, he had previously worked alongside the US military and had applied for asylum in this country after completing his mission.

This congresswoman has emphasized that Paktyawal's death appears to have been preventable and serious concerns exist about how detainees are treated. She has also reported receiving information about lack of medical care and inhumane conditions at these facilities.
