The International Organization for Migration has reported that 1,492 Afghan citizens died or disappeared during their international migration journeys over the past year. This alarming figure highlights the severe risks associated with irregular migration routes.

According to the report, the majority of these tragic incidents occurred on land routes between Afghanistan and Iran, as well as on maritime paths across the Bay of Bengal. Most of the recorded Afghan victims were adult men seeking better living conditions.

The organization emphasized that 2025 marks the second consecutive year with record-high migrant fatalities worldwide. They are urgently calling for enhanced protection and support for people on the move.
