Delegations from the Taliban government and Pakistan are starting talks today in Urumqi, China, to reduce border tensions. Hosted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the meetings are expected to include representatives from both sides, although the exact composition of the delegations remains unconfirmed.
Concurrently, a joint peace jirga was held in Peshawar, but no Afghan representatives attended. The assembly, which concluded yesterday, focused primarily on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, with participants strongly urging a ceasefire and the resumption of diplomatic dialogue.
Border clashes and Pakistani airstrikes on parts of Afghanistan have now entered their fifth week. Pakistan claims these strikes target armed groups, while the Taliban government consistently denies any support for such organizations.
