The State Security Service of Uzbekistan announced the seizure of nearly nine kilograms of opium smuggled from Afghanistan. This illegal drug cache was discovered and confiscated during two separate security operations in the Khorezm and Surkhandarya regions.
During one incident, police officers stopped a suspicious vehicle at a checkpoint and discovered the drugs among the passengers. The arrested individuals, who had previous criminal records related to drug offenses, are currently under intense interrogation.
Uzbek security officials emphasized that these narcotics were illegally smuggled across the border from Afghanistan. In recent weeks, border guards have also intercepted dozens of kilograms of hashish using the exact same smuggling routes.
