Several students at Takhar University hailing from various provinces have reported not receiving their living allowances for the past six months. This extended payment delay has caused severe economic hardship for the university students. Covering basic rent and securing daily meals has become extremely difficult for them.
The affected students stated that their last allowance payment was issued back in September of the previous year. Most of these individuals come from remote districts and lack adequate financial resources to sustain themselves. Local Taliban government officials in Takhar have yet to take effective action to resolve this issue.
The higher education ministry of the Taliban government allocates a small stipend for out-of-town students. However, the prolonged delay has forced some desperate individuals to abandon their university studies entirely. Protesting students claim they were threatened into silence and some resorted to heavy labor in mines.
