During a gathering at the French Parliament, Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights, urged the Afghan diaspora to take an active role in shaping their country's future. He emphasized that the international community and citizens abroad must work together to keep hope alive among the people of Afghanistan.
Bennett highlighted the critical situation of women's rights in the country, describing global efforts to recognize gender apartheid as a vital step. He stated that the strict policies imposed by the Taliban government on women and girls represent clear structural discrimination that requires immediate attention from the international community.
Rahmatullah Nabil also warned at the event that the indifference of migrants could lead to Afghanistan being marginalized once again. Bennett concluded by encouraging Afghans living in France to share their perspectives with him to support his ongoing mission of monitoring human rights developments.
