Sources from the telecommunications ministry of the Taliban government confirmed ongoing efforts to cut off fiber optic internet services in Kabul. An official letter has reportedly been issued to local internet companies to halt these specific services immediately.

This decision was made during a formal meeting last week. While the directive targets fiber optic connections, it states that standard DSL internet services will be allowed to continue. Consequently, residents of Kabul have reported a significant drop in internet speeds over the past few days.

Last year, the Taliban government completely shut down internet networks for two days without providing any clear justification. The telecommunications spokesperson had previously denied the rumors of this new ban.
