An Afghan refugee advocacy organization in the United States has announced that Donald Trump's administration plans to increase the refugee admission cap significantly this year. According to this initiative, the number of accepted refugees will rise from 7,500 to 17,500 by mid-year.

However, the organization emphasized that this increased capacity is exclusively allocated for white citizens of South Africa and will not apply to Afghan asylum seekers. Implementing these proposed increases will still require consultation and approval from the United States Congress.

Since returning to the White House, Donald Trump has issued executive orders blocking entry pathways for Afghan allies and banning visa issuances. Although the Special Immigrant Visa program remains legally active, no visas have been issued to Afghans since the beginning of 2026.
