Nisar Muhammad Yousafzai is one of the three historical figures who laid the vital foundations of the Republic of Tajikistan in the nineteen twenties and thirties. Originally from the Swabi valleys in present day Pakistan, he played a crucial role.
The name of this Pashtun hero is deeply tied to the anti colonial struggle, revolutionary activities, and the promotion of modern education across Central Asia. Alongside Nusratullo Maksum and Shirinsho Shotemur, he holds the prestigious title of national hero.
These prominent leaders were executed during Joseph Stalin's purges but were fully exonerated decades later. The Tajik government recently transferred capsules containing soil from their graves from Moscow to Dushanbe in an official ceremony attended by the president.
