The Taliban government police command in Kabul has confirmed that Shoorgul Pashtun, a former Afghan general, was arrested on charges of murdering two women. This incident occurred late last week in the seventeenth security district of Kabul city.
According to Taliban government officials, Mr. Pashtun has confessed to the murders, and his case will be forwarded to judicial institutions for further investigation. He previously served as the deputy defense minister and commander of the Thunder Corps.
The former general had pledged allegiance to the Taliban government two years ago. His arrest comes as international organizations express severe concern over the detention of hundreds of former military personnel by Taliban forces in recent years.
