In a recent decree, the leader of the Taliban government appointed Hamdullah Nomani, the former minister of telecommunications, as the new mayor of Herat. Nomani was dismissed from his ministerial position just two weeks ago and replaced by another senior official.
Nomani has held various significant roles within the Taliban government administration. He previously served as the minister of urban development and housing, and before that, he was the mayor of Kabul. Hailing from Ghazni province, he also served as mayor during the first Taliban rule.
According to the same decree, the former mayor of Herat was reassigned to a technical position in the municipal regulatory authority. These appointments demonstrate that the Taliban government continuously rotates leadership roles among its own internal members, completely excluding new political faces and women.
