The Taliban government local morality department in Herat province has issued a strict new directive regarding mandatory dress codes for women. The order issued on Saturday June 6 commands male family members to prevent their female relatives from leaving home unless they strictly adhere to the specific hijab style demanded by authorities.

The official notice warns that women found in public without a full prayer veil with visible faces or wearing tight clothing will be arrested immediately. Morality police officers have been instructed to detain these women on the spot and transfer them directly to the provincial women's prison facility.

The Taliban previously established multiple checkpoints across Herat city specifically to monitor and question women about their daily public attire. Since returning to power the group has imposed hundreds of oppressive decrees severely restricting the fundamental human rights and freedoms of Afghan women and girls everywhere.
