Local sources in Helmand province report that the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice has escalated pressure on media workers.
According to reports, agents have threatened cameramen and journalists operating in the southern province with arrest, continuing the group’s strict crackdown on visual media.
The department has reportedly sent official summons to journalists involved in video and image production, ordering them to appear for questioning.
This follows similar restrictions in other provinces where the Taliban have banned the photography and filming of living beings, effectively paralyzing visual journalism.
These measures have drawn sharp criticism from media advocacy groups. Journalists warn that if such restrictions persist, reporting from remote provinces will become impossible, further tightening the censorship and fear already pervading Afghanistan’s media landscape.
