A regional court in Russia has fined a citizen for posting a comment about the Taliban on the social media platform VKontakte. The court ruled that the online comment incited hatred and enmity between the people of Russia and Afghanistan.
According to official court documents, the individual admitted to the charges and expressed remorse during the hearing. He was ordered to pay a fine of ten thousand rubles, with a ten-day window to appeal the decision.
Russia remains the only country to formally recognize the Taliban administration. Previously, the Afghan ambassador in Moscow had requested Russian authorities to restrict media criticism of their government, highlighting the close diplomatic ties between the two sides.
