Relatives of Abdul Ahad Momand have sadly confirmed that he passed away at the age of sixty seven from cancer in a hospital in Stuttgart, Germany. After living in exile and migration for many decades, he was never able to permanently return home.

Momand made history in nineteen eighty eight when he successfully traveled to space as the very first Afghan astronaut. He participated in a joint mission to the Mir space station, spending approximately nine days conducting crucial scientific research and observations for Afghanistan.

Although celebrated as a massive national hero upon his return, the destructive civil wars forced him to flee the country. The tragic passing of this prominent historical and scientific figure has sparked widespread sorrow and tributes across various social media platforms globally.
