Volker Türk, the UN human rights chief, has strongly opposed the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Europe. He urgently warned that these vulnerable individuals must never be returned to a country where they face severe risks of torture and human rights abuses.

This critical statement follows recent controversial discussions between European Union officials and Taliban representatives in Belgium regarding the acceleration of migrant deportations. Human rights activists have heavily criticized these diplomatic meetings, labeling them as highly dangerous and politically inappropriate.

Amnesty International has also firmly reiterated that Afghanistan remains completely unsafe for returnees. The mass expulsion of asylum seekers could quickly spark a fresh humanitarian disaster, given that the country lacks the economic infrastructure to support them.
