The Taliban government continues its active efforts to connect Afghanistan to China through the Wakhan Corridor in Badakhshan province. Authorities announced that the construction of this vital transit road has reached seventy-five percent completion and will be officially finished soon.

However, economic experts argue that a basic dirt road is completely insufficient for standard international trade and transit. They emphasize that establishing a secure and modern trade route requires hundreds of millions of dollars in major investments to build proper highways and functional railway systems.

Security and geographical challenges also severely complicate the project. Due to ongoing security concerns regarding extremism in the Xinjiang region, China has shown very little interest in opening the border or including Afghanistan in its major Belt and Road Initiative.
