Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that the group seeks good relations with Washington and wants the US Embassy in Kabul reopened. Speaking on RT India, broadcast on Friday, he emphasized that Afghanistan-US relations are of great importance.
Mujahid called on the United States to change its "wartime policy" and said releasing Afghanistan's frozen assets would "undoubtedly" improve relations. He also called international conditions linking Taliban recognition to human rights compliance "unfair."
Five years after the Taliban's return to power, only Russia has formally recognized the group as Afghanistan's government. Washington has not responded to repeated Taliban requests to reopen the US Embassy in Kabul.
