Support among Republicans also climbed sharply, from 22% to 54%, while 84% of respondents believe the US has an obligation to protect Afghan allies. These figures suggest growing bipartisan backing for Afghan refugee admission.
Despite the poll results, President Donald Trump has suspended Afghan refugee resettlement and paused the issuance of Special Immigrant Visas since returning to the White House, leaving thousands of Afghans in limbo.
