Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi told the Financial Times that Afghanistan welcomes US investment in mining, infrastructure, agriculture, and trade, saying economic policy is open and relations should not be viewed through the lens of 20 years of war.

The Taliban hopes these proposals will pave the way for lifting international sanctions and unfreezing Afghanistan's blocked assets. The country holds untapped mineral reserves worth at least one trillion dollars, including copper, gold, and lithium.

However, UN experts have warned that no steps toward normalizing relations with the Taliban should occur without tangible progress on human rights, especially women's rights. President Trump has so far shown no interest in engaging with the Taliban.
