Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek that the bloc resume regular dialogue with Afghan representatives. He linked Afghanistan's stability directly to regional security and economic development.

Mirziyoyev stated: "Maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan remains one of the fundamental conditions for ensuring security and sustainable development in our region." He emphasized that such talks could address security issues and Afghanistan's economic development.

The Uzbek president added that resumed dialogue could strengthen Afghanistan's participation in regional cooperation mechanisms. The proposal came as Taliban representatives were not invited to the Bishkek summit.
