Actress Richa Chadha has fiercely defended Katrina Kaif and other female actors against internet trolls, strongly condemning the phenomenon of body-shaming.
Katrina Kaif recently became the target of offensive comments from online trolls regarding her post-pregnancy body after a public appearance. Now, Richa Chadha, who also became a mother in 2024, has hit back at those who target actresses after they emace motherhood, in an interview with India Today.
Richa Chadha stated that she believes this type of trolling originates from the general public, not from within the film industry. Defending her industry, she said actors are generally respectful of women who balance motherhood with their careers.
She bluntly stated, "I don't think women should listen to anybody commenting on their body. It's the common man of India who is ugly and balding and has a disgusting paunch who thinks that commenting on Katrina Kaif or Aishwarya Rai is somehow making his life better. It's so funny. I find it really useless and I honestly do think that it deserves much less space even in media discourse."
Chadha emphasized that anonymity on social media emboldens these individuals to target female stars like Katrina Kaif and Aishwarya Rai. She added that the film industry is very supportive of women who are both mothers and pursuing their careers, citing successful actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Rani Mukherjee, and Sonali Bendre as examples.
Her statements have received widespread attention on social media, with many users and public figures supporting her strong stance against online harassment and body-shaming culture.
