The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has issued a statement commemorating the eighth anniversary of the "martyrdom" of General Abdul Raziq Achakzai, the former police chief of Kandahar province. The front described General Raziq as an influential and popular figure in the country's southwestern region.
In the statement released on Sunday, the AFF extended its deepest condolences to the general's family, friends, and all the people of Afghanistan. General Raziq was assassinated in an insider attack at the Kandahar governor's compound on October 18, 2018.
The statement hailed General Raziq as one of the "strongest bulwarks" in the fight against the Taliban in Kandahar and surrounding provinces during the republic era. The AFF noted that his "proud struggle and illiant achievements" are recorded in the history of the Afghan people's fight against "extremism, terrorism, and radicalism."
The anti-Taliban group further stated that now, five years after the "usurper and demonic rule" of the Taliban was re-established, the role and stance of courageous figures like General Raziq have become "more prominent and valuable than ever."
The Afghanistan Freedom Front concluded its statement by emphasizing its commitment to continuing the struggle against the Taliban's "oppression, discrimination, and tyranny." The group vowed to honor the memory of General Raziq and all "martyrs on the path of Afghanistan's dignity and freedom." The AFF is one of several armed groups formed to resist the Taliban government since August 2021.
