Security officials in Kandahar province report that three individuals have been arrested on charges of kidnapping a child. The suspects had demanded a ransom from the child's family after the abduction.

Asadullah Jamshid, the spokesperson for the Taliban's police command in Kandahar, told the media that the operation was carried out based on precise intelligence. According to him, the arrested individuals had kidnapped a child named Maiwand from the 7th Police District of Kandahar city.

He added that after taking the child to an unknown location, the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded money for his release. The child's family reported the incident to security forces, who then launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits.

The police spokesperson emphasized that security forces, using intelligence and investigative techniques, successfully located the kidnappers' hideout. In a subsequent operation, all three suspects were arrested, and the kidnapped child was safely returned to his family.

Mr. Jamshid did not provide further details about the identities of the arrested individuals or the amount of ransom they had demanded. However, he assured that their case would be handed over to the judicial authorities for further investigation.

Criminal activities, particularly kidnapping for ransom, remain a significant security challenge in major Afghan cities, including Kandahar. The Taliban's security officials frequently announce arrests of individuals accused of various crimes to project an image of control and competence in providing security.

This occurs as citizens in various parts of the country continue to complain about the prevalence of criminal offenses and the lack of timely responses to their cases. The arrest of these individuals in Kandahar may serve as a warning to other criminal groups operating in the province.
