Donald Trump, a US presidential candidate, claimed during an election rally in Dubuque, Iowa, that he could have won the war in Afghanistan in just three weeks. Criticizing former US presidents for the hundreds of thousands of lives lost in the wars in Afghanistan and Vietnam, he stated, "We don't fight to win, we fight for an equal outcome. I don't know what we're doing."

These remarks come as Trump has repeatedly criticized current President Joe Biden for what he calls the "shameful withdrawal" from Afghanistan. He believes the US could have ended the war more "honorably" and taken its military equipment out of the country.

The 20-year war in Afghanistan is considered the longest in United States history. It claimed the lives of at least 2,461 American service members and imposed enormous costs on US taxpayers.

According to analysts, despite two decades of military presence and billions of dollars spent, the United States failed to achieve its stated goals in Afghanistan, including the establishment of a stable and democratic government.

Following the withdrawal of US forces in August 2021, the former Afghan government collapsed, and the Taliban regained control of the country. Reports indicate that approximately $7 billion worth of American weaponry was left behind and subsequently fell into the hands of the Taliban.

During a part of his speech concerning Iran, Trump also mentioned Afghanistan three times, referencing the lengthy nature of the US involvement there. He also asserted that he could have won the Vietnam War in one week.

These statements are part of Trump's ongoing election campaign, in which he aims to portray his foreign policy as more successful and decisive compared to the current administration and previous ones.
