Local sources in Kandahar province reported that a young man was murdered by his friends and a young woman committed suicide in two separate incidents.
According to local sources, a young man identified as Masoom was fatally stabbed in Spin Boldak district on Thursday. Sources stated that he left his home after receiving a phone call from his friends and was attacked immediately upon stepping outside.
The Taliban police command in Kandahar confirmed the killing, though officials did not provide specific details regarding the motive behind the attack.
In a separate development, a 23-year-old woman ended her life in the Kalchabad village of Dand district in Kandahar. Sources noted that the woman and her husband originally hailed from Uruzgan province.
The young woman had reportedly left her husband's home about five months ago due to domestic violence and had been living at her father's house before committing suicide on Thursday morning. Local Taliban authorities have not officially commented on the suicide.
Reports of violent crimes, mysterious killings, and suicides among young people have increased across various Afghan provinces in recent months. Observers link the rise in such incidents to economic hardship, widespread unemployment, and domestic pressures.
