Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban group, rejected the recent report by Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, which described the group’s suppression of women and girls as a “crime against humanity.”

In response to the report on Twitter, Mujahid wrote that it was “an attempt to tarnish public perception on the eve of the Doha meeting.” He called the allegations of human rights violations and women’s rights “limited issues” that “overshadow major progress.”

In the report presented by Mr. Bennett on Tuesday, June 18 at the UN office in Geneva, it was stated that the “systematic oppression of women and girls by the Taliban” could amount to a “crime against humanity.” He urged the UN not to treat the Taliban as a recognized government.
