The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that 11 individuals in the provinces of Nimroz, Paktika, and Bamiyan have been flogged for the charges of “theft” and “drinking and possessing alcohol.

“According to the court’s statements, eight people in Nimroz province were flogged between 15 to 30 lashes for theft, two individuals in Paktika province were each flogged 30 lashes and sentenced to one year in prison for robbery, and one person in Shibar district of Bamiyan was flogged 39 lashes and sentenced to two years in prison for drinking and possessing alcohol.

Since the Taliban’s resurgence in Afghanistan, they have repeatedly flogged accused individuals in public and have executed five people. Human rights organizations consider these actions a violation of international laws and an offense to human dignity, and they are calling for an end to such practices.
