Taliban Destroys Thousands of Afghan Lives
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the lives of thousands of Afghans have dramatically changed. This report tells the story of Sara, an Afghan doctor, exemplifying the devastating impact of Taliban rule on working women.
Sara, who previously worked at the Ministry of Public Health, lost her job after the Taliban takeover. Despite numerous efforts, she managed to find work at a hospital in Kabul but faced severe restrictions.
In her new workplace, Sara and her colleagues were forced to wear clothing specified by the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. They were not allowed to show any part of their bodies except their eyes. Even in rooms designated for female staff, security cameras were installed.
After enduring these harsh conditions for nearly three years, Sara decided to quit. She says, “The work environment became so suffocating and irritating that I gave up everything and preferred staying at home to working under such a group.”
This story is an example of thousands of Afghans whose lives and dreams have been shattered under Taliban rule. Educated women like Sara, who could have served their community, are now forced to stay at home.
The situation highlights the ongoing struggle for women’s rights and professional freedoms in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime, raising concerns about the country’s future and the loss of valuable human resources.
