Taliban Bans Simultaneous Hospital Visits for Men and Women in Badakhshan
The Taliban group in Badakhshan province has decided to prohibit simultaneous visits of male and female patients to the provincial hospital. Local sources told on Monday, October 15, that the Taliban’s Department of Public Health made this decision following pressure from the group’s morality police in the province.
According to this decision, male and female patients must now visit the hospital at separate times. However, emergency patients are exempt from this rule.
Residents of Badakhshan have expressed concern about this decision, saying that this new scheduling will make it difficult to provide services to patients. This action is part of the Taliban’s ongoing restrictive policies against women.
Dr. Ahmad Homayoun Forotan, head of the “Shahid Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani” Provincial Hospital in Badakhshan, had previously reported a shortage of facilities in this hospital, saying that sometimes they are forced to hospitalize two patients in one bed.
These restrictions are being imposed while the Taliban have implemented similar limitations on women’s activities in the health sector in other parts of Afghanistan. For example, in Ghazni province, four private dental diagnosis and treatment centers have been closed due to restrictions imposed on the activities of female dentists.
