The Canadian government has been providing consular assistance to the Lavery family while carefully managing the sensitive situation. Trudeau made these remarks at the conclusion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru.
According to CTV News, Lavery has been a frequent visitor to Afghanistan over the years, offering consulting services through his private security company based in Kabul.
