Former Afghan Intelligence Chief Warns of Regional Power Shifts and Haqqani’s Role

هشدار رئیس پیشین امنیت ملی درباره تغییرات منطقه ای و نقش حقانی

Rahmatullah Nabil, former Director of Afghanistan’s National Security, has predicted potential changes in Sirajuddin Haqqani’s role, comparing it to Ahmad al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammad al-Jolani), leader of Syria’s Tahrir al-Sham.
In a Sunday, December 16 post on X, Nabil expressed concerns about Iran’s growing influence in the Kandahar circle and its exclusive decision-making. He emphasized that these developments could impact not only Afghanistan’s internal conditions but also its western neighbor and the new Middle Eastern order.
The former security chief stressed that Afghanistan’s role has been reduced from a strategic geography to a variable dependent on regional and international competitions. He considers Iran’s influence in Kandahar a decisive factor that could significantly alter Afghanistan’s domestic and regional equations.
