At least five Pakistani soldiers were killed in a roadside mine explosion in the Bajaur region of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to The New York Times, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, also leaving 11 other soldiers injured, some of whom are reported to be in critical condition.
The wounded have been transferred to a hospital, and search operations continue in the area to locate those responsible for the attack.
Although no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far, a security official in Bajaur has stated that the attack was carried out by the Pakistani Taliban group (TTP).
Reports indicate that the Bajaur region was previously under the control of the Pakistani Taliban, who used it as their stronghold.
This is the second deadly incident targeting Pakistani security forces this week, as just two days earlier, 13 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a car bomb explosion in the same province.
The increasing frequency of these attacks signals growing security challenges in the region bordering Afghanistan.
