Maulvi Abdul Hakim Shari, head of the Taliban’s Land Seizure Prevention Commission, has proposed building special townships for Taliban members across Afghan cities.
These settlements, named “Mujahideen Townships,” received approval from Mulla Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader.
Shari argued that Taliban members lack private homes in cities and these townships should include medical facilities, schools, transportation, sewage systems, and other living amenities.
Akhundzada endorsed the proposal and ordered the Ministry of Urban Development to prepare implementation guidelines for these residential projects.
This decision comes while many Taliban officials have enjoyed luxurious lifestyles over the past four years, purchasing homes in Afghan cities.
Several have taken multiple wives during this period, and some have seized properties belonging to former government officials, highlighting the contrast with ordinary members’ housing needs.
