Major Hollywood studios and the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) have taken a firm stance against OpenAI’s Sora 2 video generation app.

The AI-powered application allows users to create short videos using copyrighted characters like Pikachu, SpongeBob, and Star Wars figures. CAA issued a statement declaring that the app exposes their clients and intellectual property to significant risks.

The Motion Picture Association also demanded that OpenAI take immediate and decisive action to address copyright infringement issues. Following intense criticism, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reversed the company’s policy, announcing that copyright holders must now opt-in for their characters to be used.

This conflict highlights growing tensions between AI companies and the entertainment industry, which fears violations of their intellectual property rights. Disney and Universal have already filed lawsuits against other AI companies like Midjourney.
