Taj-ud-Din Oyewale, UNICEF representative in Afghanistan, announced the distribution of life-saving hygiene packages to 1,900 families in Herat.

He stated that these aids were provided in cooperation with China, and UNICEF continues to support families who have recently returned from Iran.

The aid packages distributed include soap, detergents, and hygiene materials, distributed on Monday, October 19th.

This action was taken to support Afghan returnees, thousands of whom are deported daily from Iran and Pakistan.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees warned in September this year, referring to the return of about 2.6 million Afghans from neighboring countries, that financial resources for responding to returnees are running out.

The UN had requested $258 million to provide essential aid to Afghan returnees.
