The Taliban announced that over 528,000 passports were issued to Afghan citizens in the first six months of 1404 (March-September 2025). Omari Logari, spokesperson for the Taliban-controlled passport office, said Tuesday, October 21st, that passport issuance has resumed across the country.

Among the issued passports, 920 were commercial and approximately 300 were educational. Previously, sources told Afghanistan International TV that women applicants face unethical treatment at passport offices and women without male guardians are denied entry.

The Taliban passport office announced in April 2025 that passports would not be issued to individuals identified as travel-banned in the biometric system. Additionally, those convicted by courts in criminal, civil, or commercial cases, as well as children without legal guardians, are also denied passports.
