Human Rights Watch released a new report stating that Taliban intelligence and the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice are conducting intense surveillance of media activities and journalists.
The organization said the Taliban have significantly trampled media freedom and journalists face threats of torture and death.
According to the report published on Thursday, November 21st, remaining media outlets under Taliban administration are heavily censored the report indicates that journalists who fled to neighboring countries out of fear of the Taliban currently face the risk of deportation.
Human Rights Watch stated that for preparing this report, they conducted interviews with 18 journalists inside Afghanistan and 13 journalists outside the country
. According to the report, the Taliban accuse domestic journalists of cooperating with exile media and are often threatened with death by the group’s intelligence services.
