Three days of negotiations between Taliban and Pakistani delegations in Istanbul concluded without reaching a final agreement.
Officials from both sides told the Associated Press that despite several hours of talks, no tangible progress was made and no joint statement was issued.
Informed sources announced that the two sides still have disagreements regarding the implementation of a lasting ceasefire and dealing with armed groups.
Pakistan is dissatisfied that the Taliban does not accept the presence of Pakistani paramilitaries in Afghanistan and accuses the Taliban of stubbornness and inflexibility.
The Pakistani delegation in the Istanbul meeting announced its final position to the Taliban and emphasized the “unacceptability of supporting terrorist groups.”
Turkey, as the host of these negotiations, is trying to keep the talks “constructive and result-oriented,” but no joint statement was issued by Monday evening.
It is said that both sides have agreed to resume consultations in the coming days. The first round of Taliban-Pakistan talks was held on October 19th in Doha, hosted by Qatar.
