The Taliban’s Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that former US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has arrived in Kabul and met with Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. Muttaqi reportedly stated that with the war over, interaction between the Taliban and the US has practically entered a new phase.

While it remains unclear if Khalilzad is on an official mission or a personal visit, he praised the security improvements in the country. The veteran diplomat, known for his role in the Doha agreement, has visited previously for prisoner exchanges, and his return has sparked fresh speculation.

During the meeting, Muttaqi highlighted opportunities for expanding relations through continuous dialogue. Khalilzad’s presence is significant as the international community continues to withhold formal recognition of the Taliban government.
