Noor Ahmad Noor, a diplomat appointed by the Taliban, has officially started his duties as the Charge d’Affaires at the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi . In his first public meeting, he held talks with a senior Indian Ministry of External Affairs official regarding trade expansion and visa issues for Afghans.
Although India has not formally recognized the Taliban regime, engagement between New Delhi and Kabul has grown recently, especially as relations between the Taliban and Pakistan have soured. Analysts suggest India is strategically utilizing this rift to maintain its influence in the region.
Control over the embassy in India is a significant step for the Taliban in their broader campaign to gain international legitimacy and reclaim Afghan diplomatic missions abroad. This follows India’s earlier announcement to upgrade its technical mission in Kabul.
