In a significant military operation, the Mexican army has killed Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” the leader of the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The raid took place in Jalisco state, dealing a severe blow to one of the world’s largest drug trafficking networks .
Following El Mencho’s death, cartel members launched a wave of violence across 20 Mexican states, burning vehicles and blocking roads. Authorities reported at least 14 deaths, while the US, which had placed a $15 million bounty on his head, praised the successful mission .
This development may strengthen Mexico’s position in dealings with the Trump administration. The White House confirmed providing intelligence support for the operation, identifying El Mencho as a primary source of fentanyl trafficking into the United States .
