As construction projects experience a major boom in Afghanistan, the demand and importation of sand have surged dramatically. The Taliban government's Ministry of Finance reported that silicon sand imports have grown significantly compared to four years ago.
According to official statistics, Afghan traders have imported over six hundred thousand dollars worth of sand in just the last eight months. While local companies extract sand internally, neighboring countries remain crucial suppliers.
Globally, sand is a highly valuable resource essential for manufacturing concrete and glass. Despite having abundant domestic reserves, unprecedented market demand and illegal smuggling ensure that Afghanistan remains heavily dependent on continuous international imports.
