Local sources confirm that Taliban government forces have prevented a large-scale protest by residents of Herat province regarding the recent killing of civilians. The demonstration was scheduled to coincide with the funeral ceremony for the victims.
The Taliban government governor in Herat summoned several Shia elders, asking them to cancel the planned protest march. He also explicitly warned that security forces would not provide protection for the demonstrators if they proceeded.
Citizens had intended to carry the victims' bodies through the city to raise their voices against these targeted killings. However, the strict restrictions forced the community to hold only a limited and simple burial ceremony instead.
