The European Commission has announced its intention to invite Taliban government officials to Brussels for discussions regarding the deportation of Afghan migrants. Coordinated with Sweden, the talks will primarily focus on sending back individuals with criminal records.
An EU spokesperson stated that the upcoming meeting will be held at a technical level, and preparations are currently underway. This follows an initial technical meeting that previously took place between the two sides in Kabul in January.
However, inviting Taliban officials to Europe has sparked widespread criticism from human rights organizations. Activists are urging European countries to halt engagement with the Taliban government due to their severe violations of human rights and women's rights in Afghanistan.
