The United Nations Development Programme has announced that over six million Afghan migrants have returned to their country since 2023. This massive influx has placed an immense burden on the economic situation and the service delivery capacity across Afghanistan.

In the current year alone, hundreds of thousands of Afghan citizens have returned, primarily from neighboring Pakistan. The organization warned that many provinces lack the capacity to absorb this huge number of returnees and are facing severe shortages of basic resources.

The UNDP emphasizes that the successful integration of these individuals requires targeted investments and sustained support from the international community. Creating job opportunities and providing basic needs is absolutely essential to prevent a major humanitarian catastrophe.
